Roundscale Spearfish ?

IMG_1409

It’s blowing today so the Pelican and crew are at rest. That may be the case for another day or two as the front and low pressure may linger a bit longer than we would like.

The photo is that of a Roundscale Spearfish caught, photographed and released by Jim Motsko and friends earlier this week. Some say this fish is often confused with White Marlin. Whatever the case and according to Captain Bracher, the Pelican crew has caught three so far this season compared to the 200 plus White Marlin YTD. Safe to say Arch probably knows the difference. Follow this link to more photos of Joe’s colorful Roundscale Spearfish and White Marlin’s. Let’s hope it lays down sooner than later so the Pelican can work on it’s Roundscale numbers.

Picking Away At Them

Where else on the east coast can you go fishing within a days run and catch White Marlin, Sailfish, Yellow and Black Fin Tuna as well as Dolphin? The list is short and the OBX is at the top.  Arch and company caught 4 White Marlin and a few dolphin today which was about average for the fleet. Further to the south some sailfish showed up, mixed in with the table fare. Know let’s hope this cold front keeps pushing itself and Maria way offshore.

The OBX Fleet

Most all the OBX boats that went Marlin fishing Tuesday raised Marlin.  Just not in great numbers.  High boat had seven.  The Pelican released two. The weather was as nice as it gets for September which may be having an effect.  A good cold front would serve to provide for a day or two of NE wind that traditionally helps the bill fishing this time of year. While on the forecast map only time will tell if it’s the kicker needed for some intense action. Occasional Dolphin serve to pass the time and boats targeting Tuna are picking away at them in the normal spots. We’ve got some days at the end of the month.  Come join us.

White Marlin Moon!

While a bit slower today the last couple of days the White Marlin fishing has been good. Arch has run the Pelican over several areas of productive water and caught 14 out of 20 plus fish raised. Some of the boats in the fleet are consistently catching dolphin and a few black fin. The Pelican has days open beginning in the last week of September. Call us at 252-441-3197 or book us online here. We are still running out of Pirates Cove until the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center repairs are complete. Maybe by the end of the month. You can see the progress via webcam here!

Great Marlin Fishing!!

138 White Marlin were released yesterday within the fleet, nice Dolphin, Wahoo and even a few Yellowfins were enjoyed by some of the captains.  We released 8 of 15 Whites and enjoyed a much needed beautiful day on the water.  September is looking pretty good so far for getting into the Whites in double digits!

Another Spectacular Day!

Yesterday, the guys released nine White Marlin for another great day aboard the Pelican.  Today is this groups third and final day fishing and already we have released 25 White Marlin.  With Katia off shore, we were lucky to get out of the inlet this morning and they will be dealing with the hurricane swell off shore, but with perseverance they should see some action.

Marlin Fun

We had a great day yesterday releasing five White Marlin and a Sailfish.  Great action for John Bailey and Ray.  Ray released two himself.  at 13 years old, he’s loving the fishing and appreciating living next door to an offshore captain.  I think we have a fisherman for life!

More Action!

The Pelican had a great day on the seas today releasing two White Marlin and loading the box with 25 Dolphin.  The ocean was calmer today and the weather has been great with a nice east/north east breeze.  It’s great to see the fleet fishing and everyone getting back to normal after Irene.
