Yesterday was a challenging day for the fleet and finding Yellowfins, but there was no shortage of Dolphin to be had…strange this time of year.  The stream was pushed out pretty far and nothing short of 60 miles off shore to find fish too.  The last few days with the exception of bad weather days, the fishing hasn’t been bad at all.  The Yellowfin Tuna season has been hot and we expect it to continue through November.  The great part of this time of year is not only do we have very comfortable temperatures, gorgeous sunrises (something to behold on the way out) but also an abundance of life at sea.  I cant stress enough how awesome this time of year is especially when you get into schools of nice Yellowfin busting everywhere, birds diving, and filling the box.  Just a thought, actually could be your reality.

Today was interesting for most, a mixed bag of Wahoo, Dolphin and Yellowfin Tuna landed on the dock today.  Looking forward to a nice weekend in hopes that more Yellowfin show up.

The fleet has been docked the past couple of days due to weather but when able to get to the blue water the catches of Balckfin and Yellowfin tuna have been exceptional.  Not uncommon for this time of year, great action and tuna fishing at its finest.  No doubt that you will have a great time like our friend Chris Catto who had this to say about fishing aboard the Pelican:

Captain Arch and Mate Lee:

I would like to thank you for the INCREDIBLE day that you gave us! 18 yellowfin tuna, 2 blackfin tuna, 2 citation yellowfins (71 and 70#) and 2 almost (68# each).  You lived up to your reputation, and we will be seeing you next time for our next trip.  Hopefully we will make it early enough to get into some billfish or wahoo.

It’s on!!!  Limits of Yellowfin Tuna have been the highlight on the Pelican.  We have consistently filled the box with the occasional bonus of a billfish.  Today we caught Yellowfin up to 60lb’s.   The weather was beautiful today and the ocean was full of life.  A perfect Fall fishing day and we’re looking forward to more to come.  This is the time of year to enjoy this funaction and keep your freezer full.  There is nothing like fresh Yellowfin on the table.   Check availability for your day on the Pelican!

September ended on an up note for the Pelican. The crew caught 1 Blue Marlin, 2 White Marlin and a Salifish last Friday and Saturday.  Now the Tuna bite is on. Our make up party caught there limit of Yellow Fin today! We’ve got some days open!

If you ask Arch the fishing was slow today.  Lynn Tucker and Jason Waughtel may have felt a bit differently. They caught and released a Blue Marlin in the 400 pound range and put a Tuna in the box. Not many Whites around today.  The Tuna bite to the south continues to be a bit above average.  The Pelican and crew may be running out of Oregon Inlet by the end of next week. Stay tuned.

Some days you got to run far to find White Marlin.  Today was one of them.  The 60 mile run was worth the trip for Tom Postlethwait and his friends from Delaware. They caught and released 7 White Marlin out of the 10 seen. Not many boats from the OBX fleet ventured that far but those who did caught a few Whites.  The Tuna fishing to the south was OK but not quite up to the numbers caught the 3 days previous.  The Pelican has days next week open. M-W-T-F.

We received a nice note from our party yesterday. Worthy of sharing with our friends and clientele. It speaks for itself.

Subject: The Pelican

I wanted to thank you and Lee again for such a great trip yesterday.  Though we didn’t find the elusive marlin, catching the mahi and the tuna was a blast, I loved seeing the whales and the porpoises, and a slow day fishing beats any day at work!  I appreciate your working so hard for us to have a good time and hope to get an opportunity to fish with you again. Be safe and thank you!

Today was a tick better.  The Pelican went 1 for 3 on White Marlin, watched a Blue one chase some dolphin, caught a few Mahi Mahi and a Tuna.  Other boats Marlin fishing fared well. High boat caught 7 Whites today. The meat fleet is also doing very well.  Arch has a couple of days open next week and if you insist, he’ll target the Tuna. Otherwise you’ll be Marlin fishing!

Slower today.  While the Pelican and crew did boat a few tuna and dolphin the elusive Roundscale Spear was not raised today.  A few bill fish of a similar species were seen closer to the traditional “tuna” water.  The weather was nice and calm with a few showers. Back at it in the AM.

Still have some days open next week. Come on and book the Pelican.  Otherwise Arch will be forced to fish a local pier.

The Pelican and a few other boats from the OBX fleet were able to get out for the first time in a few days as the lingering cold front finally pushed off shore.  The break was good for everyone as the fishing seems to have picked up where it left off and then some.  Captain Bracher and Lee, along with Earl Rose and his guests were treated to a 4-500 pound Blue Marlin which crashed a long rigger Mackerel!  Nice mid-September treat to go along with a Round Scale Spearfish aka White Marlin and two more billfish that looked just like it.  (OK 1 Blue and 3 White’s) There were a few dolphin mixed in to keep everyone at the ready.  Let’s hope this Bermuda high set’s up for a while. Got some dates open next week! Come help Arch and Lee work on the Round Scale Spearfish count!
