With no one booked Summer managed to talk Arch into a ladies day on board the Pelican. Offshore they went at a more leisurely pace than normal.  With no particular species in mind Arch decided the girls should get a shot at a Big Eye.  On a streak of sorts he worked his way to the “hole”.  A hour or so later Summer is posing on the transom with a 257 lb Big Eye.  A top 5 fish for the Pelican.  With alot of the day left to fish off they went looking for something to match.  (Two Photos)

Billfishing has been a bit slow as of late.  The Pelican has not caught a Blue one this season. Summer’s friend Olivia Linkle had also never been off shore nor even caught a Billfish.  Until today.  While Arch called the one in the photo below around 200 pounds, he tends to be conservative.  For those of you who have seen one off the transom of the Pelican you have an idea.  Congrat’s Olivia!

Linkle Blue One

Alan Huban and friends where treated to the Big Eye whole today.  The Pelican’s box and ice bin where stuffed.  The Tuna weighed in at 198, 163 and 147 pounds respectively.  Another was pulled off and yet another missed.  The Yellow Fin help make up the difference and top the scales at 600 pound plus.  Meanwhile a couple of Blue Marlin where released among the fleet.

Three Big Eye

A little rain did not stop the Canadian contingent.  Alexander Wolfe and family where treated to a trip out to the Big Eye Hole.  They boated a 176 pounder and 9 Yellowfin.  Fleet wide a couple of Marlin were seen.

Big Eye 7-25 176

John Gordon, family and friends enjoyed a good day offshore and on board the Pelican. They boated a 200+ pound Big Eye, 4 Yellowfin, 2 gaffers and a nice Wahoo.  The fleet had to work for it today.  1/2 dozen or so billfish reported overall.Big eye July 24

As July goes so does the meat bite.  It takes a full day to catch your limit of Tuna and a few dolphin.  While the Pelican is at it an eye is peeled for the first push of billfish.  A couple of Marlin and Sailfish where reported amongst the fleet.

Arch has the 23,25 28-31 of July open!

Thanks to David Wood for putting this awesome video onboard the Pelican together.

The last couple of days have been quite a meat fest. A couple of shy Tuna’s, 50 pound Wahoo and a limit of Dolphin with a gaffer or two tossed in. Overall the bite has been good with a Blue Marlin and a couple of White’s reported amongst the fleet.

Meat 7-19

Arch,

Thank you so much for a great fishing trip last Sunday.  We all had a great time.  Dominick has not stop talking about his Big Eye.  This will be a fishing trip he will never forget.  We greatly appreciate the work that you and Lee did to get us some good fish.  Please find attached a few of the photos that we took.

Thank you, Julie Latta

s Tuna

The tuna bite continues but they’ve become so much more finicky Arch has pulled out the kites. Yesterdays limit was caught with much effort. The sharks also got there share. A few gaffer Dolphin also made it into the box. Few marlin seen among the fleet

Overall the fishing is still good. There is a trade off. For every Tuna caught we are feeding one to the sharks. Hopefully that won’t last long. Not many billfish to speak of fleet wide.  Yet…..

Missed a White Marlin and a Big Eye.  Landed 16 Tuna and a few Dolphin. Fed several sharks during the course of a long day in the deep. Next weekend is open!
