Congratulations to all the boats and anglers who fished the Dare County Boat Builders Tournament.  It was a true test of determination considering the weather conditions.  Most boats fished first and last day ending the tournament with close to 120 Sailfish released.  The Pelican finished winning the Tuna category landed by George Cecil.  Summer Bracher released five sailfish, John Bailey released three sailfish and George Cecil released two and a nice yellowfin.  An extended congratulations to the junior angler winners and the young “top lady angler” winner.  These kids hung with the best of us  in tough weather conditions and did an excellent job, it’s nice to see the next generation of fishermen aren’t wimps!

The boats did a great job for the first day.  The weather was challenging as seas were rough and SW winds at 15-20 knts.    The Pelican ended the day releasing four sailfish.  John Bailey released the first on the right flat  and soon after, we had a triple header!  The Pelican is lucky to have  experienced billfish anglers.  Congratulations to John Bailey, George Cecil and Summer Bracher for a job well done on day one.    Laying today, looking forward to our last day of fishing on Sunday.  Wish us luck!!!

The Pelican scored again with an excellent catch!  Congratulations to the Stillwagon party as they proved  their angling skills by releasing two white marlin and adding four nice yellowfin tuna and twenty dolphin to the box.  Again, our weather has consistently been great and ocean conditions have made for great fishing.  Great fishing!

The Pelican and the Burgess group had an exellent day landing their limit of dolphin, six nice tuna, and two wahoo!!!  Great day on the water, light winds and all around great conditions.  Great job to the Burgess party!!!  The Pelican is gearing up for next weekends Boat Builder’s Tournament and looking forward to seeing a nice count of billfish.

Capt. Arch and the McGeever party had an excellent day aboard the Pelican.  They couldn’t have asked for a better day, the weather was perfect and the sea was calm.  The Pelican raised ten white marlin and released seven along with a few mahi for the cooler.  Another great day aboard the Pelican!!

Out of no where an est. 800 lb bluefin tuna skyrocketed the right rigger crashing on the ballyhoo, hooked and running, Arch sped the boat up to chase this monster of a fish.  With about ten yards left on the spool, they were still able to maintain control and gain line and after a great fight the fish was successful at continuing it’s journey in the big blue ocean.  Capt.  Arch said it was one the most amazing things he had seen.  He said it was like my truck just jumping out of the water and crashing on a ballyhoo.  The day wasn’t lost however, they landed a 183 lb. big eye tuna, raised three big eye’s a white marlin and caught their limit of mahi.  An exciting day aboard the Pelican.

The last several days have been a very successful.  Yesterday Chris Walters and friends caught their limit of mahi and raised a sailfish.  The fleet is starting to see several billfish and taking advantage of the great fishing that we have been fortunate to enjoy.

Gary Wood and his friends have had two excellent days of fishing aboard the Pelican.  Today they limited out on Mahi, landed three tuna and raised a sailfish.  Congratulations for great angling, it’s been great fishing!

Chris Glodeck released an est. 500 lb blue marlin today along with his wife, Michelle Glodeck releasing a white marlin.  They raised five whites and landed several dolphin.  Great job to these two anglers and our mate John Bayliss Jr.! Excellent team work!  These marlin were caught on light tackle which made the fight just that more challenging and fun!!  Another GREAT day on the Pelican with Captain Arch Bracher!

This week has been an excellent week for the Pelican and its charters.  Everyday they have caught their limits of dolphin and added several tuna to the mix.  Nevertheless, a white marlin was released yesterday!  Wonderful weather, great water temperatures and abundance of fish have made this week fun for everyone.  Captain Arch and the Pelican are looking forward to another successful week and invite you to take advantage of the great fishing for upcoming July.  July is a great month as the fishing cycles begin to change and the influx of  different species come and go.  July is a great month for the increased chance for billfish along with putting fish in the box.   Don’t miss out!!  Fishing has been great!
