It’s  getting good. Really good. The Pelican hosted Tom Alber and a group of his friends today.  They ran about 40 miles N and E of the inlet today and set up shop in the thick of it.  Some 25 shots later and by the end of a great day they released 17 Whites and lost a Blue one. Many other boats also enjoyed the break in the wind and a good day of fishing as well.

Arch has next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday open.  Give him a call at 252-441-3197 or email arch@fishthepelican.com to get in on what may be the best fishing of the season.

While it was a bit  “snotty” today the strong NE wind did not stop the Pelican or Brian Light and his friends. They like it rough and were not disappointed. The White Marlin bite continues as the boat and crew managed to release 5 of the 10 Whites interested in the spread.

Brian Light flew in from Portland Oregon and met up with his buddies from Virginia for their annual outing on board the Pelican. Everyone was present and mostly sober bright and early. Off they ran to numbers only known to a select few.  The results were great. They went 9/16 on Whites and 1 Blue one.

The Pelican has 3 primes time days open next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Call Arch at 252-441-3197 or email him at Arch@fishthepelican.com You may also book through the website.

The fishing is fantastic. The Pelican and crew logged a grand slam with 6 Whites,  1 Sail and Blue Marlin today. A shout out to John Bailey for a remarkable achievement. A Pelican regular and fishing the OCLTC tournament, John has chalked up two personal grand slams in as many days.

While the Pelican had a good day with 4 Whites and 1 Sail a few of the other boats in the fleet found them big time. Reports of 14 Whites, Grand Slams and Double Grand Slams were numerous.  The Pelican had a Blue one in the spread but it was not to be.

The bite turned on today! OCLTC members onboard the Pelican caught and released 6 Whites and 5 Sails.  Overall the bill fishing is very good..  At least one boat reported a double grand slam. Honorable mention goes out to the Double B.  5 Blue ones……..

The White Marlin bite waned a bit today.  For most boats.  The Pelican managed to catch 3 along with a blue one. It was a bit rough with a steady 15 knot NE wind. I wonder how many lookers they had?  East of the inlet turned out to be red hot. Guessing a few of the boats with OCLTC members on board will start out close to that spot in the morning.

A few members of the OCLTC (see below) had a really good warm up day on board the Pelican.  11 for 19 on the Whites.  Other boats fishing for same also did well. Lining up to be a great tournament.

The Pelican is proud to participate in the 65th Ocean City Light Tackle Club Tournament kicking this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Jim Motsko is the tournament chair and a regular onboard the Pelican.  The billfish tournament and event is held each year at ports of call around the world. Three anglers per boat, in rotation with time limits on fish, will have a friendly competition and probably many stories to tell. OBX is proud to host the gathering of distinguished anglers this year. Sunday is there day of rest so they’ll be fun fishing.

Boats participating include the Obsession, Pelican, Sea Note, Sea Breeze, Trophy Hunter, Legasea, Qualifier, Rigged Up, Hooker, Skirt Chaser, Smoker, Sea Toy, A-Salt- Weapon and Haphazard.  We will post the results if and when we get them.

The first real cold front of the 2012 summer has swept through the OBX.  The NE wind has been blowing for a few hours and the Marlin bite remains the same.  John Bailey was onboard the Pelican today and ended up with 3 out of the 4 White’s that bit. 6 others showed no interest.  A few boats caught as many as 6 with a few sails mixed in. The forecast is perfect for the next few days.  Let’s hope it cuts loose.

Another long run to the north and east today.  The fish raised where hungry and the Pelican ended up flying 4 White Marlin flags for  the 5 fish raised.  For good measure they also hoisted a Sailfish flag.  Closer in a big school of Sails showed up today.

The first real cold front of the season is on the map.  Hopefully this will turn it on in a bigger way.
