The wind has been consistently out of the East and Southeast for the last 5 days. Not the best direction for Sails. Fishing has been slow for January standards. Not much to report. Looks like mid- week may bring a change. Hopefully sooner.
It’s been a bit breezy the past few days. Enough so the Sails are harder to find and it takes awhile to get to them. Hopefully it will lay down soon. We’ve caught over a dozen so far. While Isla is no longer a hidden travel destination secret it remains a great place to kick back. Stay tuned.
Captain Bracher has ventured south and commandeered a ride somewhat similar to the Pelican.
It’s rigged up and Arch is ready to chase Atlantic Sails for the next few weeks. The fishing has started out very good with sails biting within 15 miles of the dock and catch and release numbers in the 20’s. Let’s hope viento del sur remains at bay.
Meanwhile and stateside OBX, The Pelican is all but ready for 2013. We’ve got dates open during prime times for all species. Email us at Arch@fishthepelican.com or call 252-441-3197.
The Pelican has been hauled out for regular winter maintenance and “fine tuning”. Maybe a larger Marlin will be painted on the hull. We thought you would enjoy this Pelican photo from another angle.
Arch has been recharging in Florida fishing the piers around Destin. He leaves for the Yucatan this week and will begin working on the Sailfish. We hope to report on his progress.
On a mission to catch over a 1000 different species Steve Wozniak choose the Pelican to help fill his bucket list this past summer. You may read about it here. …… Arch is still pier hopping in NW FL. He reports moderate success.
While the Pelican may be tied up for the season Captain Bracher is not. Each year he migrates south like many of us to rest and “recharge”. As you might imagine his method includes some fun fishing. Arch is wandering between piers in NW Florida going after anything that bites his light tackle presentation of a jig and plastic bait. This includes, Bonita, Drum and Black Fin Tuna. Yes Tuna on a pier.

Once he gets that out of his system its off to Mexico to work on the Sailfish count. Thanks to everyone for another good year on board the Pelican. Best of luck to Sonny as he continues to mend. The entire Pelican crew wishes you and yours a good holiday.
Arch says the Yellowfin bite is on. He has days open all week and is itching to fish after having spent all weekend on the road. Chip married off Julia and like a good mate Arch attended Julia’s outdoor wedding. It was somewhere near Ft Pierce, Fl.
Still a bit rough but not so much so that Arch and few of the other boats in the fleet went fishing today. The results were so so. The Pelican boxed 3 Yellowfin. About fleet average. A few Blackfin reported caught.
Lee and Sonny went out in the woods last night for what turned out to be a successful deer hunt. Nice change from his scenery two weeks ago. Therapeutic!
