As Expected

The cold front which kept most of the Isla fleet at the dock late last week also help concentrate the fish and bring them closer to home.  Everyone including Arch experienced more typical January action off the Yucatan.  Sails where around bait and just cruising along with many other types of marine life.  Multiple hook ups where common […]

Finally a wind shift!

It has been blowing SE steady and with a vengeance for over two weeks until yesterday.  It laid out enough that Arch was able to find a few pods of sails under birds and a fair number of trolling bites. 18 for 30 something.  Today he went out front of Isla and picked off 8 […]

In search of

With the exception of two or three days the wind has had a relentless easterly component to it for over two weeks.  Again, not the best direction for Sails.  The last couple of days have improved and we’ve found a few areas of more concentrated Sails. Thankfully a few that bit. But nothing to write more about.

Easterly Fetch

The wind has been consistently out of the East and Southeast for the last 5 days.  Not the best direction for Sails. Fishing has been slow for January standards.  Not much to report. Looks like mid- week may bring a change. Hopefully sooner.

Even slow fishing days in the Caribbean are better than none.

It’s been a bit breezy the past few days.  Enough so the Sails are harder to find and it takes awhile to get to them. Hopefully it will lay down soon.  We’ve caught over a dozen so far.  While Isla is no longer a hidden travel destination secret it remains a great place to kick […]

Pez Vela

Captain Bracher has ventured south and commandeered a ride somewhat similar to the Pelican. It’s rigged up and Arch is ready to chase Atlantic Sails for the next few weeks.  The fishing has started out very good with sails biting within 15 miles of the dock and catch and release numbers  in the 20’s.  Let’s […]

A Different Perspective

The Pelican has been hauled out for regular winter maintenance and “fine tuning”.   Maybe a larger Marlin will be painted on the hull.  We thought you would enjoy this Pelican photo from another angle. Arch has been recharging in Florida fishing the piers around Destin.  He leaves for the Yucatan this week and will begin […]

Quest

On a mission to catch over a 1000 different species Steve Wozniak choose the Pelican to help fill his bucket list this past summer. You may read about it here. …… Arch is still pier hopping in NW FL.  He reports moderate success.

Winter

While the Pelican may be tied up for the season Captain Bracher is not.  Each year he migrates south like many of us to rest and “recharge”. As you might imagine his method includes some fun fishing.   Arch is wandering between piers in NW Florida going after anything that bites his light tackle presentation of a jig […]
