With the Cobia bite continuing to be the best in recent memory it makes it more difficult to decide whether on what to fill up the freezer with as the Tuna and gaffer Dolphin fishing is heating up offshore.

Arch and anybody that would go has seen some of the best Cobia fishing in recent memory. Made it tougher to run off shore and deal with the gaffer dolphin. Billfish are starting to show up.

Arch kept the Pelican in the Yellowfin and Dolphin successfully steering clear of oversized Bluefin bite Sunday.
After leaving chunks and or lips of Cobia all over the Redneck Riviera Arch is back aboard the Pelican. Today they managed to box some Tuna and Dolphin. No pizza for dinner yet!

The charter boat Pelican’s port of call is Oregon Inlet Fishing Center located within one mile of Oregon Inlet on the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina. This area offshore of the East coast of the United States is considered one of the most productive, year round, blue water fisheries world wide. Close access to offshore waters and the Gulf Stream allow charter boats, commercial and recreational fisherman a year round angling bonanza. Located on the north end or entrance to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Park the area is also renowned for its inshore water and beach/surf fishing access.
Thanks to the huge expanse and warmth of the shallow waters of Pamlico Sound bait fish and or fry of all types inhabit the back water. All seasons offer fishing of some sort. In the spring of the year schools of Red Drum, Striped Bass, Bluefish migrate north passing close to the 200 + miles of beach which make up much of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. As temperatures warm in the Spring and Summer the action picks up off shore as the blue water of the Gulf Stream creeps in within miles of the OBX inlet’s at Cape Hatteras and Oregon Inlet. Atlantic Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Atlantic Sailfish, Wahoo, Dolphin Fish, Yellow Fin and Big Eye Tuna show up in good numbers this time of year. Cobia are seen and caught within sight of the beaches in the summer. Red Drum, Striped Bass and Bluefish along with a host of other species migrate south in the fall and early winter. Blue Fin Tuna show up off shore in mid winter.
Captain Arch Brach Bracher has fished this area for over 3 decades. Growing up in Northern Florida and then nearby Virginia Beach it did not take long for his brother Captain Pat Bracher and him to recognize where the real fishing action was. As a mate for an offshore charter boat out of Rudy Inlet, Arch really began to cut his teeth deep sea fishing after joining up with Chip Schaffer on the Temptress in the 80’s. Then, with the purchase of his first Pelican in 1990 (a 50 foot Sheldon Midget built boat) he began his owner/captain career becoming one of the most successful sports fishing captains in and around the Gulf Stream.
In 2000, Capt. Arch Bracher had a 56 foot, Paul Mann sport fisher custom built and the second and current Pelican saga began. Arch is a dedicated angler, captain and conservationist who will choose first to release anything hooked should conditions allow. He also actively participates in tagging programs for billfish and drum. Arch, the Pelican, crew and guests are consistent tournament winners with a key illustration being his winning of The Master’s Sailfish Tournament in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and the 2006 Pirate’s Cove Tournament. In addition, he is consistently at the top of the annual billfish count at his port of call, Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, while at the wheel of the “Pelican”.
