Yellowfin
Still a bit rough but not so much so that Arch and few of the other boats in the fleet went fishing today. The results were so so. The Pelican boxed 3 Yellowfin. About fleet average. A few Blackfin reported caught.
Lee and Sonny went out in the woods last night for what turned out to be a successful deer hunt. Nice change from his scenery two weeks ago. Therapeutic!
Post Sandy
The OBX also took a punch with Sandy. Most of the piers are no longer and there was significant beach erosion. Highway 12 is closed in more than one spot. The water rose to Arch’s house but did not go in. The Fishing Center had water over the docks but no real damage and the power is back on. The Pelican is at the dock and going fishing for the next few days. Weather permitting.
Welcome home Sonny!
Lee and his family wish to thank everyone who reached out during these difficult times. Sonny is back home and doing better. He will receive continued treatment locally.
Arch has tied up the Pelican in Wanchese and is waiting out Sandy’s wrath patrolling the local pier’s for Drum. He said its not rough enough yet.
Batten down!
The Pelican, along with most of the fleet, have hunkered down for Sandy. Stay tuned!
Wahoo…. A Lot of Wahoo
The last couple of days have been productive offshore. The box as had Yellow Fin, Wahoo and King among others. Today a White Marlin was released!
Sonny is on his way back home for continued treatment.
Weekend Crowd
Relatively calm weather makes for a large fleet on the weekend. That spooks the fish that don’t get caught. Arch managed 5 Yellow Fin and 4 Black Fin big enough to put in the box. Better boats caught a couple of Wahoo.
Sonny continues to slowly improve and hopes to be back home for continued treatment next week.
Meat time
After a little rest, fishing for drum, more rest and some much needed boat maintenance Arch and the Pelican found there way off shore. The fishing is great with Black Fin, Wahoo and Dolphin finding there way in the box. Better boats has good hauls of Yellowfin as well. Based on the forecast there is much more to come.
Sonny aka Jefferson Lee Albarty V.
Sonny continues to fight a yet to be diagnosed illness. We are all hopeful that he can return home to continue chemo treatments at Duke within the next few days. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to support the Albarty’s during this difficult time.
A PayPal account has been set up under his email address. sonnyalbarty@hotmail.com You may donate online there or mail to 101 Maid Marian Court Manteo, NC 27954 in his name.
When will the bite stop!
If the Drum aren’t biting the Marlin are! At least 3 out of 4 Marlin the Pelican found today. They Also filled the box with 2 Tuna, 5 Wahoo and 15 Dolphin.
Most of you that fish with Arch know Lee Albarty. His son, 10 year old Sonny is not doing well. The cost for medical care is significant and not completely covered by insurance. If you have the resources to contribute please send any donations to Arch. Keep fighting Sonny!
October Marlin and Sonny Alberty
The Pelican and crew went 1 for 2 on Blue Marlin and 4 for 8 on Whites today. 7 Wahoo also surrendered.
Last night’s fundraising effort at Pirates Cove for Sonny Alberty went well. They sold over 600 plates and ran out of food. Silent auction and bake sale also worked out. More info on how you might help is forthcoming. We are all pulling for you Sonny.
